I contributed to the development of PAS4 — a proprietary policy administration system built at Empirica Actuaries. It streamlines the end-to-end policy lifecycle from quotation through claims settlement, serving multiple insurance clients across Botswana.
What It Does
Insurance companies face increasing pressure to manage growing policy volumes while maintaining compliance with evolving regulations. PAS4 provides a centralized platform for policy creation, endorsements, renewals, and cancellations — with built-in compliance checks at every stage.
My Role
I was responsible for the data architecture and actuarial calculations module:
- Designing the data model to support complex policy structures
- Implementing premium calculation engines
- Building automated compliance validation rules
- Developing reporting APIs for finance and actuarial teams

Impact
The system consolidated multiple legacy spreadsheets into a single authoritative source, reducing data inconsistencies and enabling faster policy issuance. For actuaries, it provided clean, structured data directly from operational systems — eliminating the manual data extraction that previously delayed pricing and reserving work.
